The Obituary of Jesus

Jesus Christ (33/endless eternity) of Nazareth passed away on passover Friday just after 3 pm on a hill just outside the city of Jerusalem.

Jesus was born into dual families and His life was a unique mixture of the human and the divine. On His mother’s side He was born Jesus, in the town of Bethlehem to Joseph and Mary, somewhere between 6 and 4 BC. On His Father’s side He was Immanuel, Creator, Alpha, Omega, Lamb of God, Bright and Morning Star, Chief Cornerstone, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace, King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Ancient literature records He has existed from eternity past in the portal’s of glory.

In His earthly family Jesus grew up in Nazareth and spent most of his life working for His dad, Joseph as a carpenter. As an adult Jesus left the carpentry business and went to work for His other Father, God Almighty. He had given indication this was what he would do when at 12 years of age He commented, “I must be about His Father’s business.”

Most of the rest of His adult life was spent as an itinerant preacher. He recruited 12 followers of little notoriety.

Jesus was best known for His love and concern for people especially the helpless and hopeless. He had an uncanny ability to discern the needs of people and His ability to help them is unmatched in human history.

He once described His purpose as being “anointed to proclaim good news to the poor Being sent to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind and to set at liberty those who are oppressed” (Lk.4:18)

He did just that. He lived among the common people, loved the unlovable, healed the sick, and ironically it is reported that He even raised the dead back to life.

Jesus was an amazing teacher who at the peak of His career was known to speak to crowds of more than 25,000 people. The last week of His life was quite turbulent as his popularity spiked and then plummeted in just 5 days, resulting in His death between two thieves.

In the end His life is best described by the prophet Isaiah;

3 “He was despised and rejected by men,

  a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;

and as one from whom men hide their faces,

   he was despised, and we esteemed him not.”

4 Surely he has borne our griefs

    and carried our sorrows;

 yet we esteemed him stricken,

    smitten by God, and afflicted.

5 But he was pierced for our transgressions;

    he was crushed for our iniquities;

 upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,

    and with his wounds we are healed.

Jesus is preceded in death by His earthly father Joseph and one disciple who had recently betrayed Him. He is survived by His mother Mary, a few brothers and sisters and 11 of his disciples all of whom refused to allow their names to be printed in this column.

The arrangements were handled by Joseph of Arimathea and were made hastily following his death as the Sabbath was quickly approaching. No services were held and none of His family or friends could be located at the time of this printing. There is rumor that some of the ladies who followed Him are planning to go to the tomb on Sunday for a private graveside ceremony.

In lieu of flowers His Heavenly Father request that all people confess their sins and place their trust in Him for salvation and consecrate the rest of their lives to Jesus.

BE ENCOURAGED, WE’RE CHRISTIANS!
